Hello there. I’m Dinusha and welcome to The Stove & I.
I was born and raised in Sri Lanka and I’m currently living in Southern Ontario, Canada with my husband and our eight-year-old son.
In 2012 I started The Stove & I to record my musings on food, cooking, our travels and of course recipes, especially dishes from my childhood (lest I forget!) – think fiery pol sambol, soul-warming kiri bath and moreish tuna rissoles, recipes which I hope will shed light on my own food heritage and inspire others to cook and have fun in the kitchen.
I have always appreciated good food, even as a child. I had little rolls of puppy fat to prove this – which thankfully I no longer sport. Despite my insatiable appetite, I never cooked at home. My passion for ‘real’ food and cooking began soon after I got married and moved to Dubai where I lived for over a decade. My mother gave me a few handwritten recipes for some very simple, tried and tested dishes – read: lentil curry – which I made almost every single day. Having had to juggle work and manage a home and family left me with very little time to spend in the kitchen, but cooking came naturally to me (it’s no surprise because my mom is a wonderful cook, well I must have inherited at least some of her culinary talents).
I have come a long way since my mother’s handwritten recipes – let’s just say that these past years in the kitchen have helped me develop an appreciation for fresh, seasonal ingredients, pretty decent knife skills and above all an enduring love for food and cooking.
Thanks for stopping by!
